SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO-AM) The 2016 Sioux Falls Air Show really packed them in.
"We feel that there is about a 100,000 to a 120,000 people who participated in the air show," Organizer Chuck Nelson tells KELO Radio. Since the show is free it's not like you are officially counting heads. Nelson's estimate is based on talking to the food vendors and the show participants and on the number of people who took the shuttle buses.
Nelson wants to give a special thanks to for the financial support from the Sioux Falls business community that helps keep the air show free each year. He says free shows of this size are "pretty unique". For example, Nelson says that the air show in Fargo, North Dakota costs $30 at the gate.
He also wants to thank the host, the South Dakota Air National Guard.
He says the weather was a little soggy on Saturday, but Sunday was a beautiful day and that really helped attendance.
"It was a phenomenal show", says Nelson.
