SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) -- The city of Sioux Falls made a decision yesterday to stop using snowgates on the weekend snow.
Streets director Galynn Huber says some citizens are upset about three feet of slushy snow in their drive ways.
However, Huber says the City streets department was dealing with a big problem.
Because of the amount and weight of the snow, the snow was snapping off or breaking the snowgates.
That took 25 percent of the motorgraders out of commission, with the threat of more breaking.
Meanwhile, Huber said the streets needed to be cleaned for emergency traffic.
He says its the first time since they put the gates on years ago, that this has happened.
There were times during the height of the storm, according to Huber, that all plowing was stopped, because it was just too dangerous.
Huber spoke to reporters this morning at the daily Sioux Falls Police Department briefing.
