Record-setting snow; more snow coming; snow removal still happening

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) – The snow has stopped…for now.

The National Weather Service says Sioux Falls received 13.7 inches of snow over the weekend, setting a record for April 14 snowfalls, and for any day in the month of April.

April snowfall so far is at 24.9 inches, beating the 18.4 inches set in 1983.

But we’re not done yet. Mike Gillispie of the National Weather Service says Sioux Falls will get more snow – up to four inches - on Wednesday.

“The biggest part of this storm will be in Northwest Iowa and Southern Minnesota,” Gillispie said. “They’re looking at 6-8 inches of snow. This is still another fairly significant event.”

The Sioux Falls Street Department is still working on cleaning up the snow from Saturday. Plowing of emergency snow routes was completed on Sunday, but snow pick up in Zone 1 will begin at 1a.m. tomorrow morning. Vehicles parked in Zone 1 will be subject to ticketing and towing from 1 a.m. – 6 a.m. Tuesday morning.

If you are unsure what snow zone you are in, or where the zone boundaries are located, use the city’s online interactive map, which allows you to pinpoint your zone by address. This is available at www.siouxfalls.org/snow.
