SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) -- City Councilor Rex Rolfing was one of Mayor Mike Huether's allies on the City Councilor.
Just as Huether reflected back on his eight years during his State of the City Address today, Rolfing also looked back over his eight years on the Council.
"We got a lot of good things done," Rolfing said. "We made some mistakes, yeah. But we moved everybody positively forward. That's what we tried to do, that I tried to do."
As to the Mayor's speech, Rolfing liked what he heard.
"I thought it was very well done," Rolfing said. "He pointed out many of the things that had been accomplished over the last eight years that he and I and Michelle (Erpenbach) have been part of the Council and part of the governing group, if you will."
Like Huether, Rolfing has served two terms and is term limited. Rolfing is now running for House Speak Mark Mickelson's seat in the state House.
Councilor Theresa Stehly, who has sometimes been at odds with Huether, was conciliatory toward Huether but also looking ahead to next Tuesday's election of a new Mayor.
"I wish Mayor Huether the best and thank him for his services," Stehly said. "I just very excited about the new era of leadership and perception and openness and transparency."
Stehly and the Mayor have been on opposite sides on a number of issues during her two years on the Council
Stehly has been at odds with Huether at times during her two years on the City Council on various issues.
These have included the downtown public private multi-use parking ramp, The Denny settlement, and setting up park districts.
