SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) -- Mayor Mike Huether expressed how many feel about the drowning death of youngster Maggie Jo Zaiger Sunday at Falls Park.
"I really feel terrible for this mom and for the family and for the friends," Huether said on The Greg Belfrage Show this morning. "I do. And I know all of you do too. Our heart hurts us, our gut's tighter today."
The youngster fell into the river and drowned. The falls were full of foam at the time of the accident and contributed to the accident. The girl tried to touch the foam.
"There's foam all over that river," Huether said. "It's a reality of living in an agricultural environment like we have in Sioux Falls and in South Dakota."
He says the City will look at what happened and decide what to do next. The Mayor said the City made safety improvements in 2013 and 2016 to the falls and park areas.
"You try to stay objective, as much as you can" Huether said. "Then you do do some analysis every time."
