SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) -- Sioux Falls flagship road reconstruction project in 2018 will be a $12 million face-lift of Ellis Road from 12th to 41st Street.

"Really that whole corridor out there is going to look different when we get done out there," City Engineer Brad Huwe tells Kelo.com News.

The busy and growing busier road on the west side will be turned from two lanes into four lanes with a median and selected turn lanes. Underground utilities will be installed, along with new LED streetlights and wider side paths for bicyclists and walkers.

Huwe says that T & R Contracting Inc. of Sioux Falls hopes to begin the project in early April.

Outgoing Mayor Mike Huether says 2018 will be another step to making the city's streets even better.

“Almost 500 miles of streets have been repaired, rebuilt, or replaced in Sioux Falls since 2010. Our city’s infrastructure has come a long way."

There was an open house to find out more about the project at 6 p.m. Thursday, March 15 at the Prairie West Library.

All of the planned road projects for 2018 can be found at the city's website:
