Renewed call to delay 'Village on the River'

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) - Sioux Falls City Councilor Theresa Stehly has renewed her call to delay the $50 million downtown parking ramp hotel project.

Her latest ammunition is the new lawsuit filed in connection with the downtown building collapse.

"We see that Legacy Development is being sued by the family of Ethan McMahon, for his death, and we're still going forward with this thing. It's absurd." Legacy Development is also involved in the parking ramp project.

Since the bonds for the city's share of the cost have not yet been sold, Stehly says there is still time for an ordinance to rescind the funding, to "back off" and give the process a few more months.

But Councilor Rex Rolfing says the city was not named in the lawsuit, so the suit is no reason to stop.

"I think its a waste of our time to go back and revisit it and stop a project that will be good for the downtown Sioux Falls area."

At 13 stories, the 'Village On The River' development at 110 South Mall Avenue will one of the tallest buildings in Sioux Falls.
