SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) -- The man who was Sioux Falls youngest elected and longest serving mayor--Rick Knobe--has endorsed Jolene Loetscher in her bid for the job.

Knobe was elected at age 27 in 1974 and served two five year terms until 1984. He's also a retired radio talk show host.

"I am voting for Jolene Loetscher as our next mayor," Knobe said in a statement. "Not because she is a woman, but because she is a person of substance who happens to be a woman."

He also said Loetscher's ideas on creating opportunities for all, in housing, transportation, employment, neighborhoods, and families are solid.

"She talks and walks inclusiveness," Knobe said.

Loetscher said she was happy to have the former mayor's endorsement.

“I’m honored to have Rick’s support as we move Sioux Falls, our City of Opportunity, forward to the future," Loetscher said. "Rick, and so many others, believe in tomorrow and what’s possible with our plan for progress,” Loetscher says.

Loetscher is one of seven declared candidates for Sioux Falls mayor. Nominating petitions are due at 5 p.m. Friday with the city clerk.
