SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO-AM) - One of the world’s last flying B-17 bombers arrived Monday in Sioux Falls for this weekend’s air show.
The aircraft “Sentimental Journey,” is flown and maintained by the Arizona Wing of the Commemorative Air Force.
Originally built in 1944, the bomber saw service for the United States Army Air Forces in the Pacific. It has been completely restored and features a gleaming polished aluminum livery, gun turrets, and operating bomb bay doors.
The nose art features a painting of World War II pin-up Betty Grable. The aircraft is parked at Maverick Air Center and will be a part of Thursday’s World War II-themed hangar dance.
