SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) -- Watertown state Sen. Neal Tapio spoke to a receptive crowd of supporters in Sioux Falls today, formally announcing his run for the Republican nomination for the U.S. House.

He said his campaign themes will be faith, family, freedom, and free enterprise.

He noted that free enterprise was being lost.

"We have to reteach enterprise to the people of South Dakota," Tapio said.

He also expressed concern about the future.

"The whole world is on a collision course with destruction," Tapio said, without elaboration.

Tapio also criticized his party for it being "all about fundraising."

After his announcement, Tapio told KELO.com News in an interview (above) that he would put $200 to $300,000 of his own money into his campaign.

During his announcement, Tapio touched on some of his previous ideas about Islam. In his interview with KELO.com News, he said he would talk at a later time in depth about the religious rights of Muslim Americans.

With a nod to President Donald Trump, whose campaign he ran in South Dakota in 2016, he said his election and the help of his supporters would "make South Dakota great again."
