Rounds expounds on immigration, tax bill benefits

WASHINGTON, D.C. (KELO.com) -- There may be bi-partisan support to help the so-called Dreamers--children who were brought here illegally by their parents when they entered the country.

"These kids, for all practical purposes, have grown up as Americans," Sen. Mike Rounds told The Greg Belfrage Show today. "There is no discusion about not trying to fix that issue for them.

Also on immigration, Rounds says maybe think of the President Trump's border wall with Mexico as something not quite so solid.

"Even the President now, while he says 'the wall' once in a while, he's talking more about a border security system," Rounds said. "That includes some cases a world, but in some cases, as he suggested, a wall you can see through."

On the just passed tax reform act, Rounds says it is kind of a big deal.

"I think it's probably one of the most important pieces of legislation that's been passed in years," Rounds said.

He says there's been a pent up demand to get the United States economy going again.

A double-barreled approach is why Sen. Mike Rounds thinks the recently passed tax reform bill will work--and is working.

"The fact they were able to respond with both the necessary business tax changes and also the confidence building consumer tax changes, I think is just going to let this economy roll," Rounds said.

Rounds says that announcements by Great Western Bank, Wells Fargo, and Walmart that they will increase wages is proof that the new tax bill is working--and will work.

"It's the fact that businesses now have the confidence to say, 'we're going to be growing, we need employees, we need to compete for that, and we think we got a chance to make a profit that we could  put back into the economy as well,'" Rounds said.

Rounds appears monthly on The Greg Belfrage Show.
