SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) - South Dakota Attorney General Marty Jackley is being criticized for a jump in travel costs for his office. A report to the Government Operations and Audit Committee saw travel costs increase from sixty thousand dollars in 2016, to over one hundred thousand dollars in 2017.
But Jackley insists is all politics and that those compiling the report should have done their homework.
"Politically to make those suggestions, is just that. It's political," Jackley said. "They should have got their facts straight."
Jackley says the costs are related to their statewide involvement. The cost of vehicles, and the work the South Dakota forensic lab does is attributed to the costs.
"If there's something important that happens in our state, people want law enforcement there to help," Jackley said. "That's not going to change."
Jackley is running for the republican nomination for Governor. He will face Congresswoman Kristi Noem in the June primary.
