SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) -- Meeting for lunch before a friendly group of mothers, grandmothers, and women, Rep. Kristi Noem (R-S.D.) talked about the process of passing the tax reform bill and how families would benefit.
Noem said she was the only mother and farmer on the conference committee that hammered out the compromise between the U.S. House and Senate.
Participants asked Noem if she was frustrated by media coverage of the bill. Noem said she was. However, she said sometimes after just emerging from a meeting on the bill, she'd see comments from participants criticizing what was discussed.
Noem said she was happy that farmers and ranchers will be able to deduct 100 percent of the interest on their borrowing. Most other businesses can only write off a portion of their interest.
The meeting wasn't all about wonky policy issues. Noem said her day got off to a rough start in Brookings, where he had a meeting with a young family. She said she stepped on the young boy's Lego set and then spilled coffee.
At the end of the meeting, some of the women wanted to know how Noem stays healthy with all the stress and travel of being a Congresswoman.
"A lot of Airborne and washing your hands," she said.
Besides Brookings and Sioux Falls, Noem was making an appearance about the tax bill in Huron.
