SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) -- It was supposed to be one of those feel good things--set up a way to nominate citizens who are "Siouxper Heroes".
It's an idea from Councilor Marshall Selberg to allow the body to recognize unsung heroes in the community.
But when City Councilor Pat Starr supported an amendment of the resolution to allow people involved in politics to be nominated after hearing public testimony last night, Council Chair Rick Kiley got personal with Starr, with Mayor Mike Huether trying to bring things back to order.
Starr had seconded the resolution at a previous meeting.
"But you can do your homework prior to this," Kiley said. "If you truly want something to pass, you've got to work on that."
"Council Chair!" Huether interjected.
"What are you saying, I don't do my homework?" Starr asked.
"No, on this event, you did not," Kiley answered.
The amendment failed. Despite the heated words, the resolution passed 6 to 2. People involved in politics need not apply to be "Siouxper Heroes."
