SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) - South Dakota Legislators return to Pierre next week for the start of the 2018 session. Governor Dennis Daugaard has proposed a very tight, 2019 budget, with no raises for state employees or schools.
But he says despite the grim outlook, state revenues could improve before the final budget is passed in March.
"I think there is some possibility that we will see some revenue improvement. We just don't know," Daugaard said. "My job is to be very careful, so the budget I presented was very conservative in our revenue projections. If the projections get better, then we'll be able to spend more than my budget suggested. I can't count on that, but I'm hopeful."
