SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) -- Besides seeing the end of his company's 23 year run managing the City of Sioux Falls' three golf courses, Tom Jansa also spent Christmas in the hospital.
In a message posted on the Dakota Golf Management website this evening, Jansa said he was diagnosed with " runaway A-fib" and two blocked arteries. He had an angiogram Tuesday on one of the arteries. He goes back to the hospital next week for work on the other artery.
Despite the stress and health issues, Jansa says he feels "fantastic." He said this was the reason he was not at the City Council meeting Tuesday that approved the Landscapes Unlimited request for proposal to run the City courses.
In his statement, he says he will work to make a smooth transition to Landscapes Unlimited. He also urged his supporters and the community to support the City courses.
"I would also like to take this opportunity to encourage all of you to continue to patronize the fine City courses that you enjoy playing," Jansa wrote. "Everything that you love about playing Elmwood, Prairie Green, and Kuehn Park is still there."
He also said he's proud of the work his company did on the re-worked Elmwood course, which was not at full capacity because of construction.
"Much of my focus over the past five years has been on making sure that the Elmwood renovation was a success," Jansas wrote. "I leave knowing that Elmwood is back and better than ever. I am proud of what we have accomplished and the team we have built over the years."
He also said that he is pleased that it is likely that most of his current staff will continue in their positions working with Landscapes.
