LISTEN: Midco Internet customers: Relax says the company

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) -- It will be business as usual at Midco with its Internet customers, despite the FCC overturning Obama-era 'net neutrality' rules.

Midco's Director of Governmental Affairs, Dan Nelson says the ISP has never blocked customers, or restricted them, or played favorites.

"We have not done it, it has not been our practice. We do not expect to."

In fact, Nelson says Midco would be in favor of federal legislation to outlaw blocking and other controversial techniques.

"A bill that will take those core principles, blocking, throttling, prioritization. Put those in a clean law for everyone to live by."

South Dakota U.S. Senator John Thune (R) says he supports ways to protect consumers from potential abuses and has called on skeptical Democrats to join him in working on the legislation.

Critics of the FCC vote are most concerned that equal access to the Internet will be put in jeopardy, especially by Comcast, AT&T, and other big Internet players. Supporters of the vote say it will lead to a freer Internet with less regulation.

Midco provides Internet connections for thousands of customers in South Dakota, North Dakota and Minnesota.
