LISTEN: Sioux Falls gets another big B-ball tourney

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) -- Sioux Falls will host the 2018 and 2019 NAIA Division II Men's Basketball National Championships.

The Sanford Pentagon will be the venue, and the co-hosting schools with be Dakota State University and Iowa's Northwestern College.

Executive Director of the Sioux Falls Sports Authority, Bryan Miller, says that this will mean real March Madness in Sioux Falls with Summit, Northern Sun, and now NAIA games all in one month.

"The city will have 80 college basketball teams in the month of March descend on Sioux Falls."

Miller says there was only a couple weeks notice to bid for the tournament, so it was a "whirlwind", but they got it done.

The tournament came up for grabs when the College of the Ozarks in Branson Missouri adopted a policy requiring all teams to stand for the national anthem and couldn't come to an association-wide agreement with NAIA.

The 32 teams will compete March 7- 13, 2018, and March 6-12, 2019.
