SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) -- A new canopy, a better walkway for people with visual impairments, and a bike repair station are just a few of the new amenities for the refurbished downtown city bus depot.

The remodeling cost $2 million dollars, with about half of the amount coming from the Federal Transit Administration.

Mayor Mike Huether, FTA administrator Cindy Terwilliger, city transportation planner Sam Trebilcock, and Sioux Area Metro general manager Randy Hartman spoke in the refreshed depot while riders waited for their busses to arrive at the remodeled platform.

Trebilcock said that the station has 11 different routes that connect at the depot, so it plays an important role in getting residents to their desired destinations.

The city offered free bus rides today as well as tours of the new and improved facilities.
