SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) -- Attorney General Marty Jackley gives considerable deference to other prosecutors.

However, the Republican is in a unique position to understand what is going on with Special Proscecutor Robert Mueller's investigation of Trump's ties to Russia and the 2016 election. Jackley is a former U.S. Attorney for the federal District of South Dakota.

He called Mueller's methodical approach to the matter "textbook," just like Jackley used to teach to new assistant U.S. Attorneys who prosecuted crimes.

Still, Jackley isn't willing to second guess or speculate on what may be happening.

"When you see indictments coming out and charges and perhaps deals being made, I think it's important to give prosecutors and investigators time to do their work," Jackley said.

Jackley is in his second term as South Dakota's attorney general. He is also running for the 2018 Republican nomination for governor against U.S. Rep. Kristi Noem.
