SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) -- The City of Sioux Falls says the new city administration building which begain construction in January is on budget and on time.
Officials say the building will be completed next spring, with work on nearby Van Eps Park to be compoleted in the summer of 2018.
City officials and contractors took members of the media on a first tour of the facility. (See video.)
The building will have four stories, with the first and second floors fully finished and bathroom installed on the third floor. The fourth floor will be a "shell." The third and fourth floors will be held in reserve for future expansion.
Sue Quanbeek-Etten, director of central services for the city, said it would be similar to the addition that was put on the Minnehaha County courthouse about a decade agao. But the fourth floor would be as high as it would go.
According to a handout from the City, each floor has 20,000 square feet of space. The City says it can add 40,000 square feet to accommodate 20 years or more of growth.
She also said the City is looking for other governmental tenants and no price has been set on how much the City might charge other renters.
The facility will have diagonal parking on the street in front of the building and underground parking for 36 vehicles--either City vehicles or employees' vehicles.
About 125 people will work in the building when it opens. Engineering, licensing, parks administration, planning and building services, and public works will be in the new building, according to the City. City Hall will house the city attorney's office, community development, finance, fire prevention, human resources, the mayor's office, and utilitiy billing.
