SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) -- Cover those plants if you want them to still be alive on Tuesday morning.
The National Weather Service has posted a Freeze Warning for most of the Dakotas on Monday night. In Sioux Falls the overnight low is slated to hit 30, with upper 20's forecasted for areas from Mitchell to Madison and Aberdeen.
"Any plants left outside may be killed, and if you are getting up early in the morning it's pretty likely you'll have to scrape off those windshields," says National Weather Service meteorologist Alex Ferguson.
Monday's warning also covers a swath of western Minnesota and all of North Dakota.
Ferguson says Monday's freeze is slightly behind schedule for the region, "in terms of time of year for getting your first dip below freezing, tonight is actually a couple of days late." However October has been an month of abnormalities for the region, rainfall in Sioux Falls is over four inches above average for the first ten days of the month.
