Sioux Falls - Sioux Falls Fire Rescue responded to an early morning structure fire at McDonald’s at 4000 W 41st Street. They arrived on scene and reported smoke as they approached the structure..
The McDonald's crew advised responders they had a grease fire in their deep fat fryer. They attempted to activate the dry chemical extinguishing system, but were unsuccessful. Fire crews extinguished the grease fire using a dry chemical extinguisher. They then utilized a hose line to cool the exhaust system. An additional crew made access to the roof to ensure there was no extension to other parts of the building. Natural gas to the building was shut down at the meter.
The City of Sioux Falls Health Department was notified and responded to the scene to work with McDonald’s management for cleanup and re-opening.
Sioux Falls Fire Rescue responded with four fire trucks, three support vehicles, and nineteen firefighters. The cause of the fire is under investigation by Investigator Steve Alberico. Sioux Falls Fire Rescue was assisted on scene by Sioux Falls Police Department, Sioux Falls Health Department, and MidAmerican Energy.
Sioux Falls Fire Rescue would remind residents to test their smoke detectors monthly, check the detector’s expiration date, and change the batteries when you change your clocks.
