SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO-AM) The Minnehaha County Sheriff's Office is warning about a phone scam that uses a bogus recording that claims to be the Minnehaha County Sheriff's Office.
People are told to call the number - 553-5908 - because they missed jury duty and a warrant will be issued for their arrest unless they pay a fee. The recording sounds official, but is as fake as a three dollar bill.
The Sheriff's Office is investigating the scam, trying to figure out the identity of the suspects involved. When the bogus number was called for this story, KELO Radio couldn't get through. The circuits were busy, perhaps with so many curious people calling to hear the suspects voice.
