Another wild weather night possible for area prep football squads

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KWSN and KELO.com) -- Mother nature is gearing up to be the MVP of South Dakota High School Football for another week, but this time the schools are hoping to out-maneuver her.

Anticipated severe weather on Friday has prompted several schools to move up the kickoff times of their games Friday, including the big match-up of the night in 9AA between #1 Gregory and #2 Bon Homme. Kickoff for that one has been pushed to 5:30PM in Gregory.

Other games that have been impacted include:

  • Mitchell vs Douglas: the Kernel's homecoming game will now kick at 5pm.
  • Menno-Marion vs Howard: 5:45pm
  • Hanson vs Chester Area: 4pm kick in Alexandria
  • Tripp-Delmont-Armour-Andees Central-Dakota Christian vs Corsica-Stickney: 5pm kickoff in Corsica. (And before you ask, yes there will only be two teams playing in this one)
  • Woonsocket-Wessington Springs-Sanborn Central vs Chamberlain: 5:15pm kick in Chamberlain
  • Mt Vernon-Plankinton vs Winner: 4pm kickoff in Mt Vernon

You'll remember back in August the second week of the season featured some 20 games that were either suspended, postponed, or deemed final with time remaining due to a widespread lightning storm. In fact one of those Week 2 games still hasn't been finalized between Pierre and Harrisburg. They'll settle that one on Monday in Harrisburg.

Additionally last Friday's game between Menno-Marion and Parker began in Marion, was delayed by lighting, then was finished in Parker after a light malfunction at Marion's field.
