SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) -- Rep. Lynne DiSanto, a Republican from Box Elder, has learned something the hard way--all memes matter.

After posting a Facebook meme showing a car running over protestors and saying it was something everyone could get behind, the resulting uproar has cost her her job as a real estate agent in Rapid City and a speaking engagement on domestic violence.

The story has gone viral, with the New York Times, USA Today, the Huffington Post and other major news outlets picking up the story.

She did remove the post and did apologize to "those who may have been offended."

The conservative blog, South Dakota War College, came to DiSanto's defense--a bit.

"If Facebook memes are the things we get outraged about, we’ve apparently run out of real things to be outraged over," the blog noted.

On the other side, the liberal Dakota Free Press engaged in some schadenfreude.

"A Republican legislator is being held accountable for her inappropriate statements," the blog noted. "How remarkable!"

DiSanto is a Whip in the S.D. House for the GOP.
