HOUSTON (KELO.com) -- Even after a week, the needs of people in Houston and south Texas remain huge following Hurricane Harvey.
According to Betsy Ballard, communications director for the Houston Food Bank, Harvey is the worst natural disaster to ever befall Houston and the region. She says 80,000 people could still be homeless by Thanksgiving.
Also, the Houston Food Bank is providing four times the amount of food that it normally does.
How to help?
Friday, the six Midwest Communications Radio stations will be asking for your financial help for the Red Cross--Disaster Relief Fund and for items for the Houston Food Bank. Come by the studios at 500 South Phillips Avenue between 6 a.m. and 7 p.m. Our colleagues at KSFY-TV, Southeast Technical Institute, and Craft and Associates are also a big part of the drive and providing assistance in various ways. MWC stations will be broadcasting live during the drive as well.
With Hurricane Irma bearing down on Florida, donations to the Red Cross--Disaster Relief Fund will also help in that response.
Ballard said these items are particularly needed: canned goods, particularly meats, in pop-top cans; peanut butter; and cleaning supplies like mops, buckets, disinfectants, and plastic bags. For the full list, click here.
