SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) The woman who inspired Jolene's Law Task Force is running for Mayor of Sioux Falls.
Local businesswoman Jolene Loetscher says her work on child sex abuse laws is part of the reason she's running.
"Made me realize that good government and strong policy can change lives and save lives," Loetscher tells KELO.com News.
Loetscher says that Sioux Falls is the "City of Opportunity" that's given her and others so many opportunities, and she wants to keep that momentum going. She'll make a formal announcement Friday at 11 a.m. at the River Greenway Amphitheater downtown.
The former TV News anchor was sexually assaulted as a teenager. She decided to use that terrible experience to help improve laws in South Dakota.
Loetscher is the eighth candidate running to fill Mayor Huether shoes next year. The crowded field also contains Greg Jamison, Kenny Anderson, Jr., Nick Weiland, Jim Entenman, Paul TenHaken, and David Zokaites, and Mike Gunn.
