SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) -- Sioux Empire residents will have an opportunity to open their hearts, wallets and pantries to help victims of Hurricane Harvey and the likely Hurricane Irma.

Midwest Communication Radio's six Sioux Falls stations (KELO-AM/KELQ-FM, KELO-FM, KWSN-AM/FM, KRRO-FM, KTWB-FM, and KQSF-FM) will be broadcasting live some or all the time from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, asking people to donate. KELO.com News will provide periodic updates on the radio and online.

Donors will be able to drive to the curb in front of the radio stations at 500 S. Phillips Avenue and drop off their cash/check or goods donation.

Checks for cash donations should be made out to "American Red Cross--Disaster Relief," to make sure the funds are used for that purpose.

As to goods, there is a very specific list of things that the Houston Food Bank needs. Please bring only these items:

  • Protein in pouches or pull-top cans: tuna, beef stew, chili, canned chicken.
  • Canned ready-to-eat items with pull tops: vegetables, fruit
  • Peanut butter
  • Snacks: granola bars, breakfast bars, etc.
  • Toiletries
  • Paper goods
  • Diapers
  • Cleaning supplies: mops, mop buckets, brooms, bleach wipes, garbage bags, bug spray
  • Purina Dog, Puppy, Cat and Kitten Chow
  • Clumping Cat Litter

Students from Southeast Technical Institute will be helping with the donations and loading them onto two semi-trailers for the trip to the Houston area.
