SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO.com) An estimated 25,000 children return to Sioux Falls public schools on Tuesday, a little more than the year before, as the city continues to grow.

A new program this new school year will be the computer immersion program at Hayward, Annie Sullivan, and Lowell Elementary schools. District Spokesman Ben Schumacher says it is something like Spanish immersion, spending all day in a new language. In this case, it is computer language.

Keeping attendance up will be a big push this year just as it was last school year. Over 3,500 students had attendance problems last year.

Sioux Falls Police will provide an enhanced presence at all schools for the entire month of September. Lt. Jeff Garden says people have been driving through school zones all summer with no kids around. To help them get safely back in the habit of driving with the students around, police will provide a little extra presence.
