Sioux Falls, S.D. (KELO AM) - Speaking at the Americans for Prosperity South Dakota Luncheon, Republican US Senator Mike Rounds called for the simplification of the tax code, a task that he knows will be a complicated one.
The current 74,000 page document has been a target of reform talks since President Trump took office back in January, with calls to simplify everything from the number of tax brackets to the filing procedures. Rounds says everyone knows the process needs to be streamlined, however no one can agree on what should stay or what should go. "I'm hoping we can get something out this fall, but I'm not holding my breath," he told the crowd.
Rounds added the difficult part of reforming the tax code comes down to a game of give and take. "To some people, you're taking something away from them which costs them money. To others, you're giving them back something that they didn't have."
