UNDATED (KELO AM) Former Harrisburg High School Principal, Kevin Lein, hopes to work with the young man who shot him so they can reach out together to other troubled students.
"Maybe Mason and I can offer ourselves to schools or other organizations and maybe go speak briefly about our experience together." Lein tells KELO.COM News, now that Mason Buhl was sentenced this week in the school shooting case.
Buhl, 18, will be on supervised probation and be in a mental health treatment program, for shooting Lein in the arm in the principal's office in Harrisburg, South Dakota back in 2015. Lein has since moved on to a school administrator's position in rural Iowa.
Lein says he plans to contact Buhl to see if their shared experience couldn't help others.
"I just happened to be the person in the way but I think Mason could send a really powerful message so I'm really hopeful that he would do something like that."
Lein says he has been given a public platform because of the shooting and working together with Buhl "might give more clarity and resources to kids who have needs."
