Sioux Falls, S.D. (KELO AM) - The next meeting of the Annexation Task Force will take place from 5:30 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, August 9, 2017, in the Council Chambers at Carnegie Town Hall, 235 West Tenth Street. The public is welcome to attend. The meeting will be web streamed live on www.siouxfalls.org as well as televised live on cable channel CityLink.
The task force was formed to offer recommendations regarding how to improve the annexation process. The task force will NOT address or propose annexations of specific properties or subdivisions in and around Sioux Falls. Only the full City Council has the authority to address annexations. Furthermore, if an area has an existing preannexation agreement with the City of Sioux Falls, the work this task force performs will not alter the existing agreement.
The goal of Wednesday's meeting will be to develop recommendations on how to best address the pockets of land that are not within city limits but surrounded by land that is within the limits.
The task force has a tentative goal of presenting recommendations to the city council in November. More public comments will be taken at an open house in September, with those comments digested and folded into the recommendations by October.
