SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) There's a Sid's side and a Texaco side to the new Ace Hardware Store in Downtown Sioux Falls, is how owner Kevin Nyberg puts it.
The 5,700 square foot store grand opened on Friday at 330 S. First Street.
Ace incorporates the old historic Texaco station and Sid's Liquor building into the new store.
"We've got five garage doors from the old Texaco station up in the ceiling and we've got quite a few Texaco signs around the superstation portion, and we've got the old retro Texaco pump," Nyberg tells KELO Radio's It's Your Business Show with Bill Zortman.
Even though you can't buy the hard stuff anymore, just hardware, Sid's Liquor hasn't been forgotten.
"The Sid's signs that were on the outside of the building, we've incorporated those on the inside of the Sid's portion of the building."
Sioux Falls Community Development Director Darren Ketchum says Nyberg's Ace has done a really nice job to both fit into the neighborhood yet keep the connection to the nostalgia of the past. Ketchum says the new store is fresh evidence of just how many people are moving back downtown and how retailers follow residents.
