SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO-AM) - Sioux Falls Fire Rescue was on-scene Wednesday afternoon battling a duplex fire on the city's northeast side. The call came into Metro Communications just before 2:00 P.M., from a nearby construction crew, reporting smoke and flames coming from the duplex on Solar Drive, just west of the Washington High School area.

Battalion Chief Mark Bukovich said crews will maintain a "firewatch" at the property, to make certain no flare-ups erupt. He said it was a "stubborn" fire, due to the fact insulation in the roof was ablaze. He called in Public Works with a vacuum truck to help get the material removed as soon as it was extinguished. No one was in either side of the dwelling at the time.

The 523 N. Solar Dr. side of the structure suffered moderate fire and smoke damage. The 525 N. Solar Dr. side of the structure received very minor smoke damage.

The fire may have started in the roof / attic area, however the exact cause of the blaze is under investigation. No injuries were reported. Sioux Empire Red Cross was also on-scene to assist crews.
