WASHINGTON, D.C. (KELO AM) South Dakota U.S. Senator Mike Rounds (R) wants to point out that legislation to improve veterans access to GI benefits has sailed out of committee with broad bipartisan support.
It's proof that the two parties do work together, sometimes anyway.
Senator Rounds' part in the Harry W. Colmery Veterans Educational Assistance Act of 2017, includes broadening benefits for Purple Heart recipients. The legislation reforms education benefits for post-9/11 veterans.
Rounds says veterans have made incrediable sacrifices and they should be able to fully use the benefits they've been promised.
Similar legislation has already been approved by the House of Representatives unanimously - more proof the Republican and Democrats can work together, at least sometimes.
