AUDIO: Thune defends revised health care plan

WASHINGTON, D.C. (KELO AM) South Dakota's John Thune (R) says the revised health care bill Senate Republican Leaders made public Thursday will repeal the "core" of Obamacare.

The revised plan retains some Obamacare taxes on the wealthy.

"The high end taxes, a lot of our members were concerned in keeping those and plowing those back in, those resources back in to particular purposes they wanted to see served by the bill," Senator Thune tells CNN that the revised plan still repeals most Obamacare taxes.  .

Thune tells CNN that the goal now is to get the votes to move forward with debate on the bill. He says critics can't offer amendments until you 'get on' the bill. Republican leaders are working with such narrow vote margins, there's no telling what will happen in the coming days.

Senator Thune helped write the original GOP healthcare plan that simply couldn't attract enough Republican votes for approval, so the leadership has gone to Healthcare 2.0.
