SIOUX FALLS. S.D. (KELO AM) An attempted armed robbery at a business in Sioux Falls Tuesday night was no joke, even though the clerk thought it was.
Police Spokesman Sam Clemens says it turns out that the clerk knew the would-be robber and thought he was joking with her when he demanded all the cash in the register. He wasn't joking. He again asked her for the money and showed a handgun.
Then the clerk, obviously not very frightened since she knew the guy, picked up the phone. He thought she was calling the police, so off he ran without getting any money.
This all happened in the 800-block of South Minnesota Avenue.
Since the clerk knows the man the police now know who he is and they were still looking for him at last check.
It will be no joke when they catch him.
