PIERRE, S.D. (KELO AM) State Attorney General Marty Jackley has released a ballot explanation for still another major issue that South Dakota voters could decide next year.

If the proposed state constitutional amendment is approved, the state would go to open primary elections. No party labels. No Republican affiliation. No Democrat affiliation. The top two finishers then would square off.

Jackley says that state law would have to be changed or there could be constitutional challenges.

A copy of Jackley's ballot explanation is attached above this story.

Activists for a total of 12 issues are now scurrying around trying to get enough petition signatures to get their pet projects on the ballot in 2018.

Everything from legal marijuana to bathroom laws to campaign finance reform.

There could be more to come.
