YANKTON, S.D. (KELO-AM) -- Federal fugitive Lyle Jeffs was arrested near the Lewis & Clark Marina Wednesday night west of Yankton.
Authorities have been looking for Jeffs since last June, when he escaped from home confinement in Salt Lake City. He had been charged in a multi-million-dollar food stamp fraud case. Salt Lake City FBI Special Agent in Charge Eric Barnhart says public information led to the arresT.
Barnhart says a Yankton Police officer made the connection. Utah US Attorney John Huber says he expects Jeffs to return soon to face charges,
Jeffs made his first appearance in US District Court in Sioux Falls Thursday, and will be taken back to Utah.
