SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) An 80-year-old Sioux Falls grandmother has been phone scammed out of $4,000.
Police Spokesman Sam Clemens says the scammers frightened the old woman into believing that her granddaughter had been busted for drugs and needed money to get out of jail.
"Unfortunately, she went to Best Buy and bought $2,000 worth of gift cards, called them back, and gave them the numbers. They told her, then, that she needed another $2,000."
Eventually, the elderly woman became suspicious and called police.
