SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO-AM)- Thanks to the work from one of their teachers, students at Hawthorne Elemantary will have no shortage of reading material over the summer.
On Wednesday, the students got to take home one free book. This came courtesy of teacher Jessi Moeller, who won a grant for the books.
While Moeller is the one who wrote the grant, other teachers at Hawthorne are ecstatic for the students, and say reading is pivotal for a multitude of reasons.
"Our goal is just to keep everybody reading in the summer because then they will maintain those reading levels," Hawthorne Elementary Dean of Students Stephanie Jones said. "Even that love of reading, we want to have that for our kids so that they want to read, and giving them those fun books that they like to read is one of our goals, and being able to have a book at home is a big thing for our kids."
The grant also helped to bring new books to the school library.
