SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) An 87-year-old Sioux Falls Woman has been phone scammed out of $900.
Police Spokesman Sam Clemens says the scammers convinced the elderly woman that it was Publisher's Clearing House calling and she'd just won $2 million and a car, but would first have to send $15,000 to them.
The scammers were able to get $900 out of the woman, but when she started to send them thousands more, thankfully, family members got wind of what was going on and stopped her.
When you get a phone call that you have won something, but you first have to send money to collect the prize, that should be a big fat deep red flag that its a scam. But, of course, heartless scammers prey on the elderly because they are usually more susceptible.
