SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) Sioux Falls signature Downtown Trolley service begins service Friday, May 26.
The fare remains one thin dollar and free for kids under five.
Downtown businesses continue to pitch in to keep the trolley alive with a modified funding model.
"It took some time to determine the right business model for the Downtown Trolley because potential funding sources took several months to vet. Thanks to the dedicated work of our Trolley Task Force, we were able to formulate a model that can sustain the trolley year-to-year," says Joe Batcheller, President of Downtown Sioux Falls.
The Main Street Business Improvement District will provide a baseline of funding for trolley operations. The remaining funding gap will be covered through ticket sales, advertising, and sales of DTSF merchandise.
Trolley service will operate from 11:00 AM to 8:00 PM on Fridays and Saturdays, and from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM Monday through Thursday. The last day for the trolley will be Labor Day, Monday, September 4.
