Major construction underway at South Dakota State

BROOKINGS, S.D. (KELO AM) South Dakota State University on Friday broke ground for the $50 million expansion of its Performing Arts Center.

“The university must and will continue to grow, improve and evolve to meet the needs of those who learn here as well as those who teach here,” said SDSU President Barry Dunn in a news release, “Our own expanded Performing Arts Center will certainly help us fulfill our responsibility to be a comprehensive university that includes a focus on music, drama and dance.”

To bridge the $1.5 million dollar gap in the the $50 million dollar goal, First Bank and Trust has agreed to match all donations in the next 12 months, up to $750,000.

The expansion will include a 850-seat theater and a 225-seat recital hall.

Construction is expected to be finished in January 2019.
