SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) Sioux Falls Mayor Mike Huether says he viewed the Facebook weapons rant by Ehab Jaber and found it "unbelieveably disturbing."
Jaber has been charged with making a terroristic threat with the video he recorded of his guns in his car after being told to leave a conference in Sioux Falls, which featured speakers highly critical of the Muslim religion.
Mayor Huether says the city's growing religious and racial diversity can cause tensions and challenges, and Jaber's video didn't help any.
"That fear and that distrust that we are certainly dealing with right now. In my mind it's some of the highest levels that we've had since probably the 60s," Huether tells KELO Radio's Greg Belfrage Show in his monthly visit.
Huether acknowledges there was a firestorm following the video but most of the calls he received were from out of town and out of state. He says there was a lot of fake news associated with the story.
The mayor says diversity is a good thing for Sioux Falls, but when you have someone who does something wrong, regardless of his race or religion, it does not help the dialogue.
