ST. PAUL, MN. (KFGO) - If you're thinking ahead to July when the restrictions are lifted for Sunday liquor sales in Minnesota, most cities with municipal liquor stores will be open. 200 cities have municipal liquor stores, with 240 locations.
Paul Kaspzak, Exec. Director of the Minnesota Municipal Beverage Asso., says most of his members will take advantage of the opportunity, many of them reluctantly. Kaspzak says he thinks most stores that he represents will watch their sales figures closely and then determine whether they will remain open beyond the summer.
The head of another group that represents privately-owned liquor stores in Minnesota says he also believes that most his members will be open on Sundays. But he says competition from large, big box stores could make it difficult for some of them to survive.
The first Sunday when liquor stores will be allowed to be open is July 2.
