SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) The Sioux Falls School Board Monday evening has approved a return to an August start date for the 2018-2019 school year.
A city wide vote in 2015 pushed the start date back to after Labor Day for three years. Recently, a wide-ranging panel of students, teachers, and parents discussed the pros and cons of the later start date, and voted 14-7 in favor of going back to August.
The school board followed up with a unanimous vote to approve an August 23rd, 2018 start date, which allows semester exams to be completed before Christmas break and sets graduation for May 21st, 2019.
