Sioux Falls annual spring cleanup

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - The annual neighborhood cleanup projects, NICE and KEEP, get underway this week with city volunteers hauling away unwanted items.

The neighborhoods get a helping hand in the form of a cleanup.  Residents in the identified neighborhoods can put debris out on the curb in front of their homes this week.

LuAnn Ford with the City's Health Department says mature neighborhoods are picked for the spring cleanup.  She says that usually includes residents who don't have the means to have items removed or take items to the landfill either financially or by the age and accumulation of items they have.

The debris the City removes form the curb should only be what has been owned and discarded from the resident at that address and should not contain household garbage, hazardous materials, electronics or create a greater cleanup effort for the City that was previously there.

The goal of the projects include keeping down the number of calls and referrals from residents concerned about neighborhood environmental nuisance calls throughout town.
