SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO AM) - Police have started a distracted driving campaign in Sioux Falls issuing warning tickets to drivers operating hand-held electronic devices.

Sergeant Randy Brink says officers used unmarked police cars and put some on a parking ramp to radio ahead when they spotted offenders.

Brinks says officers saw drivers clearly with one hand on the wheel and the other manipulating the phone with the driver's attention on the device instead of paying attention to the roadway.  He says some drivers had both hands on their phone.

Brinks says police will soon replace warnings with citations.

He says officers made fifty stops yesterday and issued 38 warning tickets and citations for no seat-belts, stop light running and no proof of insurance.

A citation for driving distracted in Sioux Falls is $95.
